House Dem urges Secret Service director to step down

Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) has called for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle following the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Boyle emphasized the “unacceptable operational failures” that have been revealed since the incident that wounded Trump and led to the death of one man.

Boyle, the first Democratic congressman to join the chorus of Republicans calling for Cheatle’s resignation, expressed his lack of confidence in her leadership amidst mounting evidence of security lapses. The Secret Service had reportedly denied requests for additional resources and personnel for Trump’s security detail before the shooting.

In the wake of the violence in Pennsylvania, Boyle condemned political violence and expressed gratitude for law enforcement officers. Other Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, have also demanded Cheatle step down, despite her refusal to do so.

Cheatle and other DHS officials released a statement defending women in law enforcement following criticisms. Cheatle is now subpoenaed to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
