European Countries Secretly Supplying Arms to Israel Despite Public Announcement
Despite public announcements from countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and the UK about halting arms sales to Israel, media reports suggest that arms continue to be supplied through third countries and secret deals. The UK claims to have not directly supplied arms to Israel since October 7, 2023, but private British companies are reported to still be selling weapons to Tel Aviv.
Italy, on the other hand, has reportedly stopped arm supplies as required by law, but data from the country’s Customs Agency confirmed arms exports to Israel between December 2023 and January 2024. The Greek Cypriot administration has also been accused of serving as a military stockpile site for Western nations to store weapons destined for Israel.
Despite some European countries restricting arms sales to Israel, such as Belgium, Italy, Slovenia, and Norway, arms exports continue. Journalist Iain Overton highlighted that Germany approved millions in export licenses to Israel, emphasizing the challenge of tracing arms sales due to third-party countries and subsidiary companies.
Amid international condemnation for its offensive on Gaza, Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
