합동참모본부(합참)는 21일 북한의 지속적인 오물풍선 살포에 대응해 전방 지역에서 대북 확성기 방송을 이날부터 전면 시행한다고 밝혔다.

합참은 이날 “우리 군은 수차례 경고한 바와 같이 오늘 오후 1시부로 대북 확성기 방송을 전 전선에서 전면 시행할 것”이라고 발표했다.

합참은 북한의 오물풍선 살포에 대응해 지난 18일에 이어 19일 서부·중부·동부전선에 배치된 고정식 확성기를 산발적으로 방송했고, 당분간 이같은 식으로 확성기 방송을 지속하겠다고 19일 발표한 바 있다. 각각 하루에 방송 시간은 총합 10시간 정도였다. 그러나 북한이 21일에도 오물풍선을 살포하자 전방 지역에 설치된 확성기 전체를 동시 가동에 들어갔다.

합참은 “집중호우로 인해 우리 국민뿐만 아니라 북한 주민들에게도 심대한 피해가 있는 상황에도 불구하고 북한군은 저급하고 치졸한 행위를 반복하고 있다”며 “북한군이 자행하는 전선지역에서의 긴장 고조 행위는 오히려 북한군에게 치명적 대가로 돌아갈 수 있으며, 사태의 모든 책임은 전적으로 북한 정권에 있음을 엄중히 경고한다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “우리 군은 굳건한 한미연합방위태세 하에 북한군의 활동을 면밀히 감시하고 있으며, 어떠한 도발에도 압도적으로 대응할 능력과 태세를 유지하고 있다”고 했다.

In response to ongoing balloon propaganda by North Korea, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced the implementation of loudspeaker broadcasts aimed at North Korea from frontline areas starting on the current day. The JCS emphasized the need for these broadcasts in light of North Korea’s repeated provocations and balloon releases. Despite attempts to deter North Korea through intermittent broadcasts, the recent release of balloons on the 21st led to full activation of loudspeakers along the front lines.

The JCS condemned North Korea’s actions, warning that continued tension escalation by the North Korean military could have severe consequences. They reaffirmed a strong defense posture in cooperation with the United States to carefully monitor North Korean activities and respond decisively to any provocation.
