US Plans to Impose New Sanctions on Chinese Entities Fueling Russia’s War in Ukraine
The United States is gearing up to impose fresh sanctions on Chinese entities that are aiding Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. According to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Chinese banks may also be targeted. Sullivan emphasized that China’s support for Russia’s actions is unacceptable, and additional sanctions can be expected in the near future.
China, while claiming neutrality, has deepened economic ties with Russia and has become a key source of dual-use goods for the Russian defense industry. Sullivan referenced President Joe Biden’s executive order from late 2023, which allows for sanctions on banks financing such goods.
The US has been warning Beijing about potential sanctions for supporting Russia’s defense industry. Sullivan’s remarks highlight that new restrictions are on the horizon. Despite Chinese denials, evidence suggests ongoing support for Russia.
The relationship between China and Russia has drawn attention, with both leaders projecting a united front against Western influence. Recent joint military drills further underscore their partnership amid global tensions.
