UNRWA Funding Resumed by British Government
The UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) welcomed the British government’s decision to resume funding, calling it crucial at this time. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the release of £21 million to support UNRWA’s work in Gaza, emphasizing the agency’s vital role in delivering humanitarian aid in the region. This funding comes after a pause earlier this year due to Israeli allegations, which have been refuted by a UN investigation. Lammy also highlighted the need for an immediate ceasefire for UNRWA to operate effectively.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini praised the UK’s decision, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to neutrality and human development. Amidst ongoing attacks and a devastating war in Gaza, UNRWA’s work remains vital for safeguarding Palestinian refugees’ rights and providing essential aid.
