Tamil Nadu sets up helplines for stranded Tamils in violence-hit Bangladesh
Chennai: In response to the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, Tamil Nadu has set up helplines for the stranded Tamils living in the affected areas to enable their safe return, as announced by the government on Saturday.
The Indian High Commission has advised Indians in Bangladesh to limit public movement for their safety, as stated in an official release from the Public and Rehabilitation Department.
Under the directives of Chief Minister M K Stalin, the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils is working closely with the Indian High Commission and Tamil organizations to gather information on Tamils residing in Bangladesh.
The government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide assistance to the stranded Tamils, according to the release. Families of Tamils in Bangladesh are urged to contact the toll-free numbers provided for support.
Violence in Bangladesh, stemming from disputes over a job quota system, has resulted in casualties, prompting a strict curfew and military presence in affected areas to maintain peace.
