Oxfam: Israel wields water as ‘weapon’ in Gaza

Israel has been accused of weaponising water against Palestinians in Gaza, deliberately cutting off supplies and destroying water facilities. According to Oxfam’s report, water availability in Gaza has been reduced by 94 percent, with the water now only enough for a single toilet flush. The charity has witnessed the intentional disruption of humanitarian efforts, leading to the deaths of Palestinians.

Oxfam’s Chief Executive Halima Begum condemned Israel’s actions, calling it a violation of international law. The report highlights how Israeli military attacks have destroyed essential water and sanitation infrastructure, leaving Gaza in a dire situation. The lack of clean water has led to the detection of polio in sewage samples, posing a serious health risk to thousands of residents.

Oxfam is urging the UK government to take action to promote peace efforts in Gaza and reassess their arms sales to Israel. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure destruction, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis. Immediate action is needed to prevent a potential health disaster in Gaza.
