Health Minister confirms Nipah infection in 14-year-old boy
Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed Nipah infection in a 14-year-old boy from Malappuram district. The Pune NIV confirmed the infection, and the boy is currently under treatment at a private hospital.
The child will be shifted to the government medical college at Kozhikode, with contact tracing initiated. Precautionary measures are in place, and the public is urged to wear masks and avoid visiting hospitals.
A special action calendar is being prepared to prevent Nipah outbreaks, which have occurred in the state on multiple occasions. The presence of Nipah virus antibodies in bats has also been detected in several districts.
