Israel retaliated with air strikes on the Houthi movement in Yemen following a drone attack on Tel Aviv. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the message being sent to the group, stating the significance of the ongoing conflict in Hodeidah. Houthi official Mohammed Abdulsalam condemned the attack as “brutal aggression”.
This marks the first direct response from Israel to numerous Yemeni drone and missile attacks on its territory. The strikes targeted the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah, causing significant damage and civilian casualties according to reports.
Israeli fighter jets were deployed in response to the Houthis’ repeated attacks on Israelis. A recent drone strike in Tel Aviv, attributed to the Houthis, resulted in casualties, further escalating tensions in the region.
While the US and UK have also conducted air strikes against the Houthis to protect commercial shipping routes, the conflict continues to escalate with threats of further attacks from both sides.
