In a recent video conference, a member of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of the United Russia Party and the State Duma, Andrei Klimov, highlighted Egypt’s significant role in the BRICS group and praised the country’s strategic relationship with Russia. Klimov emphasized the close relations between Russia and Egypt in politics, the economy, and the parliament, expressing hope for further cooperation.
During the conference, discussions also revolved around the possibility of establishing a common currency for the BRICS countries and the bloc’s stance towards NATO. Klimov addressed inquiries about Serbia and Turkey potentially joining the group and the impact it would have on existing relations.
Admitting new members to the BRICS group, Klimov noted that five new countries, including Egypt, had recently been invited to participate. However, he also mentioned Argentina’s refusal to join despite receiving an invitation.
The Russian official emphasized the need for a fair world order based on equal cooperation, stating that the BRICS bloc is open to all countries. As for offering a unified currency, Klimov mentioned that the issue is still under consideration, with discussions set to continue at the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan.
