In the Jeju primary for the Democratic Party of Korea leadership, candidate Lee Jae-myung won with over 80% of the votes. The party is conducting regional rounds of primaries, with the new party leader and five top officials to be elected at the party convention on the 18th of next month. In the first regional primary held on the 20th, candidate Lee dominated the competition.

The party’s election commission conducted online voting for Jeju local party members over two days starting on the 19th. Following the vote count on the 20th, candidate Lee secured the top spot with a vote share of 82.50%. Following him were candidate Kim Du-kwan with 15.01% and candidate Kim Ji-soo with 2.49%.

In the competition among eight candidates for top officials in Jeju, the rankings were as follows: Jung, Bong-ju (19.06%), Jeon, Hyun-hee (15.78%), Kim, Min-seok (13.18%), Kim, Byung-joo (13.08%), Han, Joon-ho (12.09%), Lee, Eun-joo (12.0%), Kang, Seon-woo (7.81%), Min, Hyung-bae (7.01%).

On the same day, the party leader and top official candidates will have a second round of primaries in Incheon. The Democratic Party is holding a total of 15 regional primary rounds and will conclude the primaries in Seoul on the 17th of next month.

At the party convention on the 18th of next month, one party leader and five top officials will be decided. The results will be announced by combining votes from delegates (online) 14%, party members (online+ARS) 56%, and public opinion polls 30%.
