Four police officers were suspended for “misbehaviour” during an attempt to disperse a protest by civil society organisations in Karachi’s Clifton. The protest was held to seek recovery of seven-year-old Priya Kumari, who went missing in Sukkur three years ago while serving free cold drinks at a sabeel on Ashura.

The South Zone police spokesperson addressed the incident of misbehaviour with journalists and suspended the responsible officers. The South Senior Superintendent of Police initiated an inquiry for further legal action against the officers. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar arrived at the scene, engaging in successful talks with the organisers of the protest.

The protestors’ demand for the expansion of the joint investigation team for Priya Kumari’s recovery was accepted. Minister Lanjar assured that the JIT findings would be shared with the organisers and the girl’s parents. He expressed optimism about solving the case and recovering Priya Kumari, highlighting the government’s efforts in maintaining law and order.

Efforts are still ongoing for the recovery of Priya Kumari, with the police determined to solve the case and provide justice to the family.
