UK’s new Labour government to resume funding for UNRWA – Other Media updates

Britain, along with several other countries, had stopped their funding to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) due to accusations by Israel linking some agency staff to an attack that sparked the Gaza war. However, after being assured that the agency had taken steps to remain neutral, British foreign minister David Lammy announced that the UK would be providing 21 million pounds in new funding to UNRWA to support their efforts in providing education, health, and aid to millions of Palestinians.

Lammy highlighted the severe malnutrition crisis in Gaza, stating that mothers were unable to produce breast milk for their children and disease rates were significantly higher than normal, with cases of polio being detected. He emphasized the importance of humanitarian aid in such a catastrophe and praised aid agencies for ensuring support reaches civilians.

With countries like Japan, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Canada also resuming their funding to UNRWA, the agency remains a crucial provider of aid on a large scale.
