Tunisia’s President Kais Saied announced his bid for a second term, amidst criticism and restrictions imposed on opponents. The repressive measures in the country have raised concerns about its future, years after the Arab Spring uprising.
Saied, who came to power in 2019, has faced backlash for consolidating his power by sacking the prime minister, suspending parliament, and rewriting the constitution. Numerous critics, including political figures like Rached Ghannouchi, have been imprisoned during his tenure.
