The Israeli war of ‘extermination’ in Gaza, per the words of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan, has made the cause of Palestinian freedom a global one.
In the aftermath of recent general elections in Britain and France, the Palestinian cause emerged as a central theme in political discourses across Europe, mirroring larger shifts in the continent’s political landscape.
Historically strong support for Israel, fueled by political traditions and powerful pro-Israel lobbies, is facing challenges as awareness of the Palestinian struggle grows among ordinary citizens, progressives, and within political parties. The International Criminal Court’s description of Israel’s actions in Gaza as ‘extermination’ further solidifies global support for Palestinian freedom.
Recent decisions by Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia to recognize Palestine, alongside statements linking this recognition to justice and human rights, exemplify a growing trend of advocating for Palestinian rights in European politics.
This shift, catalyzed by the Gaza war and grassroots activism, signals a major turning point in global support for Palestine and the ongoing struggle against the Israeli occupation.
