Despite the Democratic Alliance (DA) showing support for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s opening of parliament, Steenhuisen expressed his concerns about the National Health Insurance (NHI) proposal.
He acknowledges that there are areas of disagreement within the GNU, but is optimistic about finding common ground and working together to find solutions. The primary focus of the GNU should be on boosting the economy and creating jobs, which will ultimately empower those who are driven to build a better South Africa.
Steenhuisen emphasizes that the GNU will not be a harmonious choir, comparing it to a sociable weaver’s nest where each member has its own voice. However, he believes that the GNU primarily represents those in South African politics who are dedicated to building a brighter future for all citizens.
