A Wayne County, Michigan jury has acquitted the suspect in the murder of Detroit synagogue leader Samantha Woll of premeditated murder. However, the jury remains deadlocked on charges of felony murder and home invasion, and found the defendant guilty of lying to the police. Woll, a prominent figure in the Detroit Jewish community, was tragically stabbed to death outside her home in October 2023.
Woll’s family expressed disappointment in the verdict, stating that justice has not yet been served for Samantha. They emphasized her commitment to justice and peace, calling on society to continue striving for good in her honor. The first suspect in the case, Woll’s ex-boyfriend Jeff Herbstman, initially confessed to the murder but later recanted, citing a medication reaction.
The second suspect, Michael Jackson-Bolanos, maintains his innocence, claiming he came upon Woll already deceased and fled the scene. With the jury deadlocked on some charges, a pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 25 to address the unresolved counts.
