Russia added the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to its list of “undesirable” organizations, citing a decision by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The specific reasons for this designation are unclear, but the organization was previously designated as a “foreign agent” in April 2023.
Despite its office in Moscow closing down, Carnegie continues its work from the Russia Eurasia Center in Berlin, with leading experts from Russia contributing to its reports and analyses.
The Moscow Times also faced a similar fate, being added to Russia’s list of “undesirable” organizations in a crackdown on independent media and foreign entities within the country.
