Israel Considers Handing Over Control of Rafah Crossing to EU, Palestinians – Report
Sputnik International
Israeli authorities are considering transferring management of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt to the European Union and Palestinian officials, as reported by Bloomberg. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed opposition to the idea, talks with the EU and the US are ongoing.
Palestinian Minister of National Economy Mohammed Al-Amour stated last month that the Palestinian government is prepared to manage the Rafah checkpoint in the presence of international observers, provided Israeli troops withdraw.
