In a recent interview with SNN, Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani highlighted the flourishing relations between Iran and Armenia. Thanks to the Gas for Electricity agreement extension until 2030, Iran exports 360 million cubic meters of gas to Armenia annually in exchange for electricity. The completion of the third power transmission line will double electricity imports from Armenia to Iran in the near future.
Furthermore, Iran recently signed its largest contract with Armenia since its independence. The $212 million project involves the construction of the Agarak-Kajaran road, a vital route on the North-South corridor. This project will significantly enhance export of technical and engineering services from Iran to Armenia, reducing travel time and improving safety on the road.
Trade turnover between the two countries has increased from $200 million to $711 million, making Armenia a key platform for the 200 million-strong Eurasian market. With 400 trucks traveling between Iran and Armenia daily, and 161,000 Armenians visiting Iran last year, valued at $80 million in goods, the economic ties between these two nations continue to strengthen.\
