Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Iravani, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the UN and regional organizations in maintaining international peace and security at a session in New York. He highlighted the unique insights and preventive mechanisms that regional organizations like CSTO, SCO, and CIS can offer in addressing conflicts effectively.
Iran, as a new member of the SCO, recognizes the significance of enhanced cooperation between the UN and SCO in areas such as combating drug trafficking and transnational crime. The SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure plays a crucial role in supporting international efforts in conflict prevention and resolution.
Iravani also stressed the potential for the UN and SCO cooperation to contribute to stability and development in Afghanistan through security, economic development, and humanitarian assistance. Joint infrastructure projects could further boost Afghanistan’s economic growth.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to actively engaging in dialogue within the SCO and the UN to address pressing challenges and promote peace and security in the region.
