Worldwide Chaos as Microsoft Cloud Outage Disrupts Operations
On Friday, companies worldwide faced disruptions as Microsoft’s cloud computing suites experienced a major outage. Flights were grounded, news outlets couldn’t broadcast, and brokerage houses faced operational challenges.
Outages were reported in Australia, the US, the UK, and India, impacting banks, media houses, stock markets, government branches, and airports. According to DownDetector, over 1,700 outages were reported in the US alone for services like Azure and Microsoft 365.
In Pakistan, a limited number of outages were also documented. Despite this, Haroon Baloch, a digital rights advocate, mentioned minimal impact on Pakistani organizations due to the Azure outage.
While Microsoft worked on mitigating the issues, US carriers like American Airlines and Delta Airlines experienced ground stops, possibly related to the cloud outage. Similarly, Australian and New Zealand companies faced disruptions in various sectors.
The global chaos caused by the Microsoft cloud outage highlights the interconnected nature of modern technology and the detrimental effects when such essential services falter.
