Former Opponents of Bloated Cabinet now Partners: ATM leader Zungula

ATM leader Vuyo Zungula criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership, citing an increase in crime, illegal immigration, poverty, and unemployment during his tenure. Zungula questioned the effectiveness of Ramaphosa’s plans to address illegal immigration in South Africa, calling it a national security risk.

He highlighted the issue of military-aged men being arrested en route to South Africa, emphasizing that they are not refugees but individuals taking advantage of the lack of vetting processes. Zungula also pointed out that these individuals have infiltrated township economies, despite Ramaphosa’s promises to support them.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber presented the government’s plans to manage immigration during the department’s budget tabled in parliament for 2024/25. This comes in response to concerns raised by Zungula and other opposition members regarding the impact of illegal immigration on the country’s security and economy.
