Brazil spearheads global alliance for food security
The Brazilian government, under President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, presented a groundbreaking initiative at the United Nations to establish a global alliance to combat hunger and poverty. The focus is on enhancing food security strategies and boosting income for improving livelihoods.
During the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Brazil proposed the creation of a partnership to address hunger and poverty collectively. This alliance aims to leverage resources and expertise towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN. Minister Wellington Dias emphasized the need to tackle hunger, food insecurity, and poverty amidst global challenges.
The initiative involves mobilizing funds and knowledge to address critical areas. A G20 task force will oversee the alliance’s implementation, drawing from international experiences in income transfer programs and social protection initiatives.
