The United Arab Emirates has clarified that they did not approve the $10,000 bank balance and N640,000 fee requirements for Nigerian visa applicants, as previously reported. The UAE authorities have agreed to lift travel restrictions on Nigerians, with applicants needing to fulfill specific conditions such as obtaining a document verification number on documentverificationhub.ae.
According to the website, the verification costs N640,000 per application, excluding VAT, and does not include the visa fee. Additionally, applicants must provide a six-month bank statement showing a minimum balance of $10,000.
Despite criticisms from air travelers labeling the requirements as a “constructive ban,” inquiries revealed that the DV hub website is not affiliated with the UAE government. The Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs clarified that the visa application process required a personal photo, valid passport, travel ticket, and medical insurance, with visa costs ranging from N60,000 to N90,000.
The spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured further clarification on the matter, as the UAE had previously imposed a visa ban on Nigeria. After talks with the UAE government, the Federal Government assured that the visa ban would soon be lifted, with most of the outstanding revenue issue being resolved.
