Republican senators, including Marsha Blackburn and John Barrasso, confronted Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle at the Republican National Convention regarding the attempted assassination of former President Trump. They demanded answers, calling it an “assassination attempt” and criticizing Cheatle for not being forthcoming. The incident took place in Milwaukee and was captured on video.
The shooting occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania where Trump was shot in the ear, leading to the death of one attendee and injuries to two others. Lawmakers have raised questions about security measures and the motives of the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20. FBI Director Christopher Wray briefed lawmakers on the situation, with Cheatle agreeing to comply with a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee.
Despite Cheatle’s apologies and promises of a review, Republican lawmakers remain unsatisfied, with Blackburn calling for her resignation. The ongoing investigation has sparked controversy and calls for accountability within the Secret Service.
