PPP backs government and cabinet amid PTI ban controversy – Pakistan

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced its support for the federal cabinet’s decisions, including the move to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. This decision comes after initial opposition from some senior PPP members towards the government’s announcement of banning PTI leaders.

The federal government’s decision to ban PTI and initiate Article 6 proceedings against Imran Khan, Dr Arif Alvi, and Qasim Suri was met with criticism from across the political spectrum. Despite initial reservations from PPP members like Raza Rabbani and Farhatullah Babar, the party’s secretary general Nayyar Hussain Bokhari confirmed PPP’s support for the government’s decisions.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar mentioned the possibility of debating the imposition of Article 6 on PTI leaders in Parliament, citing a “genuine case” due to constitutional violations. The decision to ban the PTI comes after the party was granted relief by the Supreme Court in certain cases.

Ultimately, PPP’s alignment with the federal government underscores their commitment to upholding the decisions made by the cabinet, despite differing opinions within the party.
