Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has assured Nigerians that the youth of Niger will not be participating in the nationwide strike planned for August 1 to 10, 2024. The governor made this statement during a town hall meeting in Minna, emphasizing that the youth of the state are peaceful and do not support the protest against hunger and economic hardship.
Furthermore, Governor Bago announced the release of 50,000 metric tonnes of grains at a 50% discount to help alleviate food prices and assured that prices would be slashed by 90% by the end of the year. He also expressed support for the autonomy of local governments and highlighted the state’s self-sufficiency in funding projects.
The Emir of Bida and the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly echoed the governor’s sentiments, urging the youth to dialogue rather than participate in protests. They emphasized the importance of peace and local engagement programs for the youth.
