Breaking News: Moscow has successfully exchanged 95 Ukrainian prisoners of war for an equal number of Russian POWs, with the troops now in the Russian capital for medical treatment and rehabilitation, as confirmed by the Defense Ministry.
The swift swap was mediated by the United Arab Emirates and was necessary as the lives of the Russian soldiers in Ukrainian custody were under threat. The military even released footage of the returning soldiers to showcase their safe return.
This prisoner exchange marks the sixth facilitated swap this year, totaling 1,400 POWs released by both Russia and Ukraine. However, this regular process was disrupted earlier in the year due to a tragic incident involving a Russian transport plane carrying Ukrainian POWs being shot down.
With tensions high, Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed the staggering numbers of Ukrainian and Russian POWs in each other’s custody. The ongoing efforts to bring these soldiers back home highlight the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation in times of conflict.
