A man wielding a knife injured a police officer in the Champs-Elysees neighborhood in Paris, prompting French police to shoot and kill him. Despite the proximity to the upcoming Olympics, authorities do not suspect any terror motives.
The attack occurred near a Louis Vuitton store, with the assailant threatening the officers. The injured officer, fortunately, survived the attack. The attacker, a 27-year-old Senegalese national, died from his injuries.
This incident follows a recent stabbing of a French soldier in Paris, adding to the high security alert in France before the Paris Games opening on July 26. Paris police have implemented additional security measures for the event, which will be held along the Seine River.
