The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, recently participated in a commemoration in London to mark the National Day of Remembrance of the United Kingdom for Srebrenica.
During the event, Bećirović addressed dignitaries, including members of the UK Government and Parliament, expressing gratitude for their recognition of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica. He specifically thanked the chairman of the “Remembering Srebrenica” foundation, Waqar Azmi, for their support.
Bećirović highlighted the importance of international engagement in seeking justice for Srebrenica, referencing the successful adoption of a UN resolution earlier this year. He stressed the need for Europe and the world to learn from the atrocities of Srebrenica to prevent future injustices.
Recognizing Great Britain’s role in preserving the truth about the genocide, Bećirović emphasized the importance of memory in fighting for democracy and human rights.
Ultimately, Bećirović expressed gratitude to Great Britain for their support and solidarity, stating, “We are a country that remembers and appreciates its friends and allies.”
It is clear that the commemoration served as a powerful reminder of the need to honor the victims of Srebrenica and work towards a more just and peaceful future.
