The Knesset Votes Against Palestinian State
The Knesset made a bold statement by voting against the establishment of a Palestinian state, just days before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington. The resolution, introduced by opposition MK Ze’ev Elkin, received a resounding majority of 68-9, with opposition from Arab parties.
Although Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shas party leader Aryeh Deri did not participate in the vote, the National Unity Party, led by Benny Gantz, showed strong support. This move reinforces the Knesset’s long-standing opposition to a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River.
The decision aimed to express the widespread public opposition to a Palestinian state, citing security concerns and the potential perpetuation of conflict in the region. It emphasized the dangers posed by such a state, including the risk of Hamas taking over and becoming a terror base.
This vote sends a clear message to the international community about Israel’s stance on the issue and the futility of imposing a Palestinian state against its will.
