Hong Kong Truck Driver Arrested After Crane Accident Disrupts Rail Service
A Hong Kong truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving after the extended crane on his vehicle hit an overhead cable, causing a disruption in rail services in the New Territories for three hours. The incident occurred when the driver was switching roads in Yuen Long, leading the crane to collide with the cable near Shui Pin Wai light rail stop.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties during the incident, and police continue to question the 47-year-old driver. The New Territories North traffic unit is investigating the case. Meanwhile, the MTR Corporation had to divert four light rail routes and arrange a free shuttle bus service for affected passengers.
By 5.12pm, temporary repair work on the damaged overhead line was completed, allowing light rail services to gradually resume. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the impact that accidents can have on public transportation systems.
