Empowering the African Youth Through Digital Literacy

Youth in Africa have been encouraged to harness digital tools to become problem solvers for their generation and enhance their digital literacy for future success. Dr. Victor Odumuyiwa, Director of the National Information Technology Hub at the University of Lagos, emphasized the importance of equipping African children with digital skills to address regional challenges effectively.
Speaking at a seminar organized by Flow Communications to commemorate the International Day of the African Child, Odumuyiwa highlighted the necessity for African children to be proficient in digital technology to compete globally. He stressed the need for young people to utilize digital tools, such as Artificial Intelligence, to solve problems and adapt to the changing educational landscape.
Florence Okah-Avae, CEO of Flow Communications, emphasized the significance of making digital education accessible to all children in Nigeria and across the continent. She urged the government to align its digital education policies with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to ensure the African child has access to quality digital learning opportunities.
Furthermore, Mojisola Fagbohunlu, Marketing Manager at Sycomore Nigeria Limited, emphasized the role of technology in eradicating poverty through education, awareness, and entrepreneurship. David Mark, a youth ambassador and software engineer, encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace digital literacy and become digital heroes by leveraging technology to solve societal issues.
