Cyprus is set to install solar panels at National Guard camps and military facilities by 2027, with Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas announcing the beginning of the project in September. The collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus has received approval from the Cabinet, with a budget of 19 million euros funded by European grants.
The initiative aligns with the government’s clean energy policy, aiming to equip the National Guard with photovoltaic systems as part of the “Thaleia” project. This green energy transition showcases the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.
Palmas also addressed recent earthworks by occupying forces near a guard post, emphasizing the sensitivity of such actions in the region. Despite these challenges, the Cyprus government remains focused on its renewable energy goals, leveraging partnerships and investments for a greener future.
