Turkey spymaster meets Syrian opposition, talks regime normalization

Turkey’s Ongoing Relationship with Syrian Opposition and Regime

Turkey has been actively working towards normalization between Ankara and the Syrian regime while assuring the Syrian opposition of its continued support. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated on July 14 that Turkey will maintain its stance on the opposition and allow them to decide on engaging with the Syrian regime.

Recent meetings with factions of the National Army and Defense Minister of the Syrian Interim Government underscore Turkey’s commitment to preserving Syrian unity and finding a political solution for stability in the region. The Turkish delegation assured the Syrian representatives of their efforts to reconsider management styles in northwestern Syria and enhance cooperation between the two sides.

However, despite discussions of potential normalization with the Assad regime, northern Syria remains resistant to any such efforts. Concerns about Russian influence in the region have also intensified, highlighting the complex dynamics at play in Syria’s geopolitical landscape.

As Turkey navigates its relationships with various Syrian factions, the region remains a focal point for regional diplomacy and conflict resolution.
