The head of security for Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has been detained, causing concern within the opposition party.
Milciades Ávila, the security chief, was seized from a residence in Caracas by Venezuelan security forces, raising tensions ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
Opposition activists have faced increased scrutiny and detention in recent months, with Ms. Machado’s support for candidate Edmundo González drawing attention and criticism from authorities.
The arrest of Mr. Ávila on allegations of gender violence has further fueled political turmoil and accusations of government interference in the electoral process.
