The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Ekiti State branch, criticized former Governor Ayodele Fayose for his comments on LG workers following the Supreme Court’s judgment upholding LG’s financial autonomy. The Ekiti NULGE President, Oluseyi Olatunde, accused Fayose of deliberately impoverishing Ekiti council workers during his time as governor.
Fayose opposed the Supreme Court judgment granting autonomy to LGs, claiming that council officials were not committed to their work. In response, NULGE refuted this claim, calling it mischievous and urged Fayose to retract his statement and apologize to council workers.
Olatunde defended Ekiti council workers’ productivity and criticized Fayose’s management of council funds during his tenure. NULGE emphasized the need to set the record straight and dispel misinformation about LG workers.
NULGE highlighted the positive contributions of council workers and their commitment to serving their communities despite challenges. The union expressed gratitude to those who supported LG autonomy and clarified misconceptions propagated by Fayose.
