Mykolaiv Region’s Ag Enterprises Grow Niche Crops in 2024

Mykolaiv region’s agricultural enterprises are embracing the growth of niche crops this year, as stated by Olena Piskun, Director of the Department for Agro-Industrial Development at Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration. The cultivation of flax, mustard, and coriander has seen a significant increase, with hectares devoted to these crops expanding rapidly.

Piskun noted that while these niche crops currently make up a small percentage of the total crop fields in the region, agricultural enterprises are exploring new opportunities for profit. The shift towards niche crops is driven by low prices for traditional crops like wheat and barley.

Farmers are finding niche crops more profitable, especially for export, as they fetch higher selling prices and show resilience to challenging environmental conditions. For successful cultivation, farmers are advised to focus on proper storage, handling, and processing techniques.

The expansion of irrigated agricultural lands in Mykolaiv region in 2024, supported by government programs, signals a positive trend towards sustainable agricultural growth in the region.
