French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal Resigns, Stays On as Caretaker

French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who will continue to serve as a caretaker until the parliament can agree on a new prime minister. Attal, at 35, is the youngest and first openly gay head of government in French history, appointed in January to replace Elisabeth Borne.

Following a disappointing showing in the European polls, Macron called for a snap election, with his Ensemble bloc finishing third. This led to Attal’s resignation, which was later refused by Macron, tasking him with handling current affairs until a new government is formed. Macron had formed an alliance with the New Popular Front to counter the rightist National Rally.

Attal, a member of parliament, was re-elected in his Hauts-de-Seine constituency and remains committed to protecting the French from any potential government with ministers from RN or La France Insoumise.

Who are the real winners of the French parliamentary elections?

As France awaits the appointment of a new prime minister, the future political landscape remains uncertain, with the priority on building unity among the republican forces for the betterment of the nation.
