Kharkiv Builds Underground Schools Amid Heavy Shelling in Ukraine

Amid constant shelling by Russian forces, the city of Kharkiv in Ukraine is taking action to protect its children by building underground schools. This second-largest city in Ukraine has been hit hard since the start of the invasion in 2022, prompting officials to prioritize the safety of its youngest residents.

Following the success of the first underground school project in Ukraine, Kharkiv has started the construction of three more underground schools. Mayor Ihor Terekhov emphasized the importance of modern air defense systems to ensure a peaceful environment for both residents and students.

Similar initiatives are being seen in other towns and cities near the front line, like the construction of underground wards in a hospital in the Donetsk region. The ongoing conflict has led to increased security measures, with a recent arrest in Kharkiv for passing sensitive military information to Russian forces.

As Kharkiv continues to face challenges, the commitment to protecting its youth remains a top priority, showcasing resilience in the face of adversity.
