Iran denies involvement in Trump plot – DW 07/17/2024

Iran vehemently denies any involvement in a reported plot to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, as claimed by US media outlets CNN and NBC. The US Secret Service allegedly received intelligence regarding a potential threat against Trump from an unnamed source.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanani, refuted the allegations, emphasizing that Iran had no part in any attacks against Trump. The country’s ambassador to the United Nations dismissed previous accusations of plotting against the former president as baseless.

Tensions between Iran and the US have been high since the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike, which Iran holds Trump accountable for as the former President and Commander-in-Chief. Iran continues to seek legal action against Trump for his role in Soleimani’s assassination.

The US Secret Service has increased security measures around Trump, but declined to comment on the recent reports of the alleged Iranian plot. Iran remains firm in its stance against any involvement in the matter and vows to pursue justice through legal channels.
