Iran has refuted CNN’s claims that Tehran was planning an attack on Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, asserting that the allegations have “malicious political motives.” Despite this denial, Iran maintains that Trump must be held accountable for the assassination of one of its top generals, Qassem Soleimani.
CNN reported that US authorities had received intelligence about a supposed plot by Tehran to assassinate Trump, leading to increased security measures. However, a separate gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, attempted to shoot Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in one fatality and two injuries before being stopped by security.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed the report as baseless and reaffirmed the country’s intention to pursue legal action against Trump for Soleimani’s killing. Tensions between the two nations have been high, with Trump taking a hardline stance on Iran, including withdrawing from a nuclear deal in 2018.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Iran maintains that it is not seeking nuclear weapons and requires nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The situation continues to unfold, with both sides standing firm in their positions.
