After more than half a century, authorities believe they have solved the murder of Wayne Pratt, who was found stabbed to death at an Enco gas station in Wisconsin in 1963. Advanced DNA testing led detectives to identify a suspect in the case, William Doxtator, who died in 2022.
Pratt, 24, was found with 53 stab wounds. His murder remained a cold case until recent forensic advances. Doxtator was initially identified as a suspect but evaded arrest. Through DNA analysis, authorities were able to build a case linking him to the crime. Winnebago County District Attorney Eric Sparr affirmed the evidence against Doxtator.
This resolution after so many years shows the dedication of law enforcement in seeking justice. The District Attorney’s Office praised the Sheriff’s efforts to bring closure to Pratt’s family.
