French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and his government have resigned, but will continue to serve until a new government is appointed after emergency elections. Attal and his cabinet will oversee the smooth running of the upcoming Olympic Games, starting on July 26th. Mathieu Disant, a law professor, explained that the role of the interim government is to implement existing measures and address any emergencies that arise.
Historically, France has had interim governments, but none have lasted more than a few days. There is no specific time limit for how long an acting prime minister can serve, and parliament cannot force their resignation.
