The long-awaited approval for visa liberalization talks with Armenia by the European Council on July 17 in Brussels marks a significant step forward. Following years of negotiations, the European Commission’s proposal has been given the green light, paving the way for discussions to commence.
Europe Editor Rikard Jozwiak from RFE/RL highlighted that the process will involve detailed annual reports to track progress, with Moldova taking 3-4 years, Georgia 5 years, and Ukraine 9 years, showcasing the varying timelines for different countries in the past. Negotiations with Turkey have spanned over a decade, emphasizing the patience required in this complex process.
