80% of Americans fear country slipping into chaos, poll shows

In a recent Reuters-Ipsos poll, Americans expressed deep concerns over the state of their country following an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The fear of escalating political violence is mounting as the Nov. 5 election approaches.

The poll revealed that Trump has a slight lead over Joe Biden, with 80% of voters agreeing that the country is spiraling out of control. The attempt on Trump’s life, where he narrowly escaped death, has reignited memories of past political assassinations.

Despite the fear of violence, only 5% of respondents find it acceptable for their political party to commit violence. However, 67% are worried about violence due to their political beliefs. The poll also highlighted the unique alliance between evangelical Christians and the Republican Party, with 65% of registered Republicans believing that Trump’s survival was guided by divine providence.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the assassination attempt, the specter of political violence looms large, raising concerns about the future unity and stability of the country.
