In a tragic turn of events, rescuers in Nepal have declared that there is little hope of finding survivors in the devastating landslide that swept away two passenger buses carrying 65 individuals into a swollen river. Despite the relentless efforts of hundreds of security personnel, only seven bodies have been recovered so far.
The search operation in Chitwan district, located about 86km west of Kathmandu, has left families distraught as they come to terms with the grim reality. With over 55 passengers still missing, the focus has shifted to recovering their bodies.
The heartbreaking scene at the site has prompted the government to take action, announcing a ban on night-time bus travel in areas with adverse weather forecasts. The recent spate of landslides and floods in Nepal, caused by heavy monsoon rains, has claimed over 100 lives since June.
As the nation mourns the loss of lives, the resilience and solidarity of the Nepalese people shine through in their shared grief.
