Officer, 4 Indian soldiers killed in Kashmir gunfight

Tragedy struck in Jammu and Kashmir as four Indian soldiers, including a major, lost their lives in a gunfight with militants. The incident occurred in the Doda area of Jammu province, a region witnessing frequent attacks on Indian soldiers. Another soldier was injured in the encounter, highlighting the escalating violence in the region.

The Indian army confirmed the operation in northern Doda, stating a heavy firefight broke out with terrorists. This follows a series of recent attacks, including one on July 9 where five soldiers were killed in the Kathua area. The situation worsened after the Indian government revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy in 2019, leading to a surge in militancy.

Reports from Excelsior newspaper revealed that 43 Indian soldiers have been killed between October 21 and July 8, underscoring the gravity of the situation. While Kashmir has long been a hotspot for conflict, the recent events in Jammu have sparked concerns over the region’s stability.
