Milei’s Bold Moves in Intelligence Reform
Argentina’s President Javier Milei has announced the dissolution of the Federal Intelligence Agency (AFI) and the reinstatement of the State’s Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE). This restructuring involves four departments directly reporting to the President and focuses on Defense, Internal Security, and Technology.
The creation of the SIDE aims to transform and modernize the intelligence system, promoting professionalism and excellence in intelligence tasks. The agency will oversee various departments, including the Argentine Intelligence Service, the National Security Agency, and the Cybersecurity Agency.
In addition to intelligence reforms, Milei’s administration plans to impose restrictions on access to Casa Rosada press conferences to ensure quality reporting. These changes aim to uphold integrity and excellence in journalism, similar to criteria set by the White House.
Despite criticism and concerns over press freedom, Milei’s government remains steadfast in its pursuit of transparency and efficiency in intelligence operations and media interactions.
